Youghal (say "yawl") is a small harbour town at the east edge of County Cork, about 8,600 people, with a walled medieval core that survived because the port trade moved to Cork. The old town is walkable in half a day; the 5 km beach and the Greenway fill the rest. It works as a stop on the Cork–Waterford N25 route rather than a destination in itself.

Youghal is a quiet town and feels safe by day. The real risks are the sea (no lifeguards off-season), unlit stretches of the Greenway after dark, and drink on a Saturday night on North Main Street.
