Scams and watch-outs
- The Yonesaka line south of Imaizumi has been cut since 2022 flood damage and may not run through: check before planning it.
- Local buses are few and stop early; a missed last bus means a taxi.
- Yonezawa beef is expensive: a small steak can pass ¥8,000, so sukiyaki or a set menu is the cheaper way in.
- Winter brings heavy snow; the park and shrine paths can be icy.
Yonezawa is a quiet, safe small city. The real risks are winter snow and ice, the early last bus to the onsen, and beef bills that climb fast if you order steak without asking the price.
