Yatsushiro
Spend a half‑day to see the castle ruins and 777‑step view, then relax at Hinagu onsen; add a night if you want a slower pace.
Yatsushiro is Kumamoto's second‑largest city, a rail hub on the Kyushu Shinkansen and gateway to historic castle ruins, the 777‑step hill, and Hinagu hot‑spring. One day covers the main sights; a second night lets you enjoy the onsen without rushing.
