Yarmouth is the small harbour town at the western tip of the Isle of Wight, where the Lymington ferry docks against the walls of a Tudor castle. It is the best base for West Wight — the Needles, Alum Bay, Freshwater Bay and Tennyson Down — and the whole town takes about 15 minutes to cross on foot. Come for one or two nights, not a week.

Get around
The town is walkable end to end. Southern Vectis buses (services 7 and the seasonal open-top Needles Breezer) run from Yarmouth to Freshwater Bay, Alum Bay and the Needles; the Breezer is roughly hourly in summer. A car helps for West Wight but the ferry fare for a car is high — foot passengers can park at Lymington Pier.
