Yantai is a treaty-port harbour on the north Shandong coast, known for Changyu wine, a walkable seaside promenade and the colonial buildings around Yantai Hill. It is a low-key stop rather than a headline city: two nights covers the centre, the wine museum and one island or manor day trip. High-speed rail links it to Qingdao and Jinan, and the airport sits 15 km northwest of town.
