Yagodnoye
Skip unless you are driving the Kolyma Highway and need a bed: one night is enough. The town has a hotel, a park and an abandoned waterworks; the real draw is Jack London Lake, 60 km south.
Yagodnoye is a gold-mining town of about 400 people on the Kolyma Highway, roughly halfway between Magadan and Susuman. It has a hotel, a small park and an aviary in the cinema building. Most travellers stop only to sleep; the main reason to come is Jack London Lake, a remote fishing and camping spot 60 km south with reputedly the best fishing in the Russian Far East.

- Bears are active in summer around Yagodnoye and Jack London Lake because of the berries.
- The road to Jack London Lake is very bumpy and crosses streams without bridges; a 4×4 is essential.

Yagodnoye is a remote, low-crime town. The real risks are bears (carry spray), mosquitoes (bring repellent) and the rough road to Jack London Lake. Check your government travel advice for Russia before planning any trip.
