Yaba
Give Yaba one full day, not a base: UNILAG, Tejuosho market and Herbert Macaulay Way food stops, then sleep on Lagos Island or the mainland.
Yaba is a mainland district of Lagos, not a resort: federal institutions, a big university, a market and a dense commercial street. It is worth a half-day to a day for markets, food and campus streets, and it works as a cheaper bed than Victoria Island if you accept longer, slower trips across the lagoon. Most visitors see it as a stop, not a stay.

Get around
Danfo minibuses and keke run the main roads; tell the conductor you are getting off at Yaba or you may be carried past it. Ride-hailing (Uber, Bolt) gives a fixed fare before pickup and is the simplest option for visitors. Walking works inside Sabo and around the campus, but Herbert Macaulay Way is fast and loud — cross at the marked points.
