Xiaogan
孝感
Skip unless you have family or business in town: Wuhan is 40 km east and has far more to see. A half-day loop from Hankou (metro + train, under 1 h each way) is enough for Houhu Lake and the museum.
Xiaogan is a mid-sized city in northwest Hubei, 40 km from Wuhan Tianhe Airport and 60 km from central Wuhan. It has a few local sights — Houhu Lake, a small museum — but no major draw. Most travellers pass through on the way to Wuhan or use it as a cheap base for the airport. One night is the maximum you would want to spend.
