Wynyard is a small north-west coast town of about 6,000 people with an airport, a main street of cafés and a coastline that does the heavy lifting: Table Cape, Fossil Bluff and Boat Harbour are all within a 15-minute drive. There is no bus to the cape and no taxi rank worth relying on, so a car decides whether you enjoy Wynyard or just sleep in it. Most travellers use it as a night between Burnie and Stanley, or as a cheaper airport entry to the north-west.

Walk Goldie Street and the foreshore. For Table Cape, Fossil Bluff, Boat Harbour and the penguin tour, drive: there is no useful public transport to the cape. Metro and Redline coaches link Wynyard with Burnie, Somerset, Devonport and Launceston, but they run to a timetable, not to your plans.
