Wuhai is a small Yellow River city between the Gobi and the Ordos desert, in the west of Inner Mongolia. It is known for Wuhai Lake, wetland birdlife and a desert wine festival rather than for old streets. Sights sit in three districts spread over roughly 40 km, so a car or a taxi day is the practical way to see them. Most travellers pass through on the way to Ordos, Yinchuan or Alxa.
