Woodstock
Woodstock, Ontario
Give Woodstock one night, not a trip: a walkable Victorian downtown and a dairy-capital museum, 45 min by car or VIA from London.
Woodstock is a small southwestern Ontario city on the upper Thames, halfway between London and Kitchener on Highway 401. Downtown Dundas Street holds a century of brick storefronts, two free museums and the old town hall; Vansittart Avenue has some of Ontario's best-preserved Victorian houses. It works as a single night on a London–Toronto drive, or a half-day stop on the VIA Windsor–Toronto line, not as a destination on its own.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake; 'Bonjour' first in Québec; avoid: Assuming everyone speaks English
- Queues: Line up and wait your turn; avoid: Pushing in
- Apologising: 'Sorry' is politeness, not admission of fault; avoid: Loud confrontation
- Canada vs US: Treat Canada as its own country; avoid: Calling Canadians American
- Indigenous culture: Buy from Indigenous-owned businesses and ask before photos at ceremonies; avoid: Wearing headdresses as costume
Scams and watch-outs
- No city buses on Sundays: plan Saturday arrivals or budget for a taxi.
- Most sights sit on Dundas Street; the 401 hotels are a 5–10 min drive away, not a walk.
- Winter brings snow and ice from December to March: check road conditions before driving the 401.
- Small-town kitchens close early; last orders are often before 21:00.
A low-risk small city; the real issues are winter driving on the 401, unlit riverside trails after dark and early kitchen closing times.
