Witbank
Emalahleni
Skip as a destination; use only as a fuel-and-sleep stop on the N4 between Gauteng and Kruger. One night max, no sightseeing detour.
Witbank (officially Emalahleni) is a coal-mining city on the N4 toll road, the main route from Pretoria and Johannesburg to Kruger National Park and Mozambique. Its air is among the world's most polluted from coal plants and mines. The town has hotels, guesthouses and a casino complex, but no reason to linger. Most travellers pass through in under an hour.
