It is the birthplace of Qantas, the place where Banjo Paterson wrote Waltzing Matilda in 1895, and the base for two dinosaur sites: the Australian Age of Dinosaurs museum 11 km east and the Lark Quarry trackways 110 km southwest. Without a car you are limited to town sights and tours run out of Longreach.
