The honest verdict

Willemstad's old town is small and flat: two shores joined by a floating bridge, both walkable in a morning. The trips that go wrong walk the harbour at noon in full sun, plan around a bridge that swings open for ships, or try to reach the west-end beaches without a car. Four clusters cover a first visit: Punda and Otrobanda for the sights, Pietermaai for bars and dinner, and Scharloo for the quiet old houses.
