Westlake
Skip Westlake as a sightseeing base: stay 1 night only if you need a cheap hotel near I-90, and spend your days in Cleveland, 20–30 min east.
Westlake is a suburban city of about 33,000 on Lake Erie, 12 miles west of downtown Cleveland. It has almost no visitor sights of its own: its draw is Crocker Park shopping, a metroparks reservation, and cheaper chain hotels within a short drive of Cleveland and the airport. Treat it as a bed, not a destination.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Distances between hotels and restaurants are longer than they look: check the walk before booking a car-free stay.
- Lake-effect snow can close I-90 and I-480 in winter: build slack into airport runs.
- Most of Westlake is residential with no sidewalk: do not plan to walk between neighbourhoods.
Low street crime and no tourist-targeted scams to speak of. The real risks are winter driving on I-90 and I-480, unlit roads with no sidewalks after dark, and deer on the metroparks roads at dawn and dusk.

No timed day plan for Westlake yet. Suggested stay: 1 night. Build a day from the list below, mornings for the big sight.
