Treat Westchester as an airport base, not a sightseeing stop: 1 night before or after a LAX flight, or a half-day for LMU, the golf course and Pann's.
Westchester is the Los Angeles neighborhood wrapped around LAX: the southern half is runways, rental lots and airport hotels, the northern half is residential streets, Loyola Marymount University and a strip of diners and sushi bars on Lincoln Blvd. Almost nobody comes here for the sights. You sleep here because your flight leaves early, or you eat here because you live nearby. Plan one night, two at most, and use it as a cheap, low-stress LAX launchpad rather than a Los Angeles base.

Get around
By car or rideshare. I-405 and Sepulveda Blvd (CA-1) are the main arteries and jam at commute times; locals use Lincoln Blvd or La Cienega Blvd as alternates. LA Metro, Santa Monica Big Blue Bus and Culver City Bus all serve the airport area, and LAX FlyAway coaches run non-stop to Downtown LA, Westwood and the San Fernando Valley. There is no Metro rail station in Westchester itself; a shuttle connects the airport to the nearest rail, so allow extra time.

Scams and watch-outs
- Century and Sepulveda Blvds carry heavy traffic and buses: cross only at signals, and don't walk them with luggage if a shuttle is available.
- The eastern edge along La Cienega Blvd, where the neighborhood meets Inglewood, has more petty crime and robbery than the rest of the area. Be alert after dark; don't leave bags visible in a parked car.
- LAX pickups are slow: use the cell-phone waiting lot or the designated rideshare area, not the curb.
- Hotel 'LAX shuttle' schedules vary and some stop overnight: confirm the hours before booking a 5am flight.
Fine for a night near the airport. The real risks are traffic on Century and Sepulveda, petty theft along the La Cienega edge near Inglewood, and nothing being walkable: plan rides, not strolls.
