West Seneca
Skip as a base unless you need a cheap bed near I-90: see it in 2–3 hours, or sleep here and drive into Buffalo, 15–20 min north.
West Seneca is a residential Buffalo suburb in the Southtowns, not a sightseeing town. Its one real stop is the Burchfield Nature & Art Center; the rest is a 1955 shopping plaza, a 19th-century roast-beef institution and highway hotels at I-90 exit 55. Travellers use it for a bed near the Thruway or a half-day between Buffalo and the Southtowns.

Get around
A car is the default: the town is spread along Union Rd, Seneca St, Ridge Rd and Southwestern Blvd, and sidewalks are patchy. NFTA Metro buses run along Seneca St toward Buffalo and Southgate Plaza, but service is infrequent — check the current timetable before relying on it. Rideshare works but waits can be long outside the plaza and hotel strip.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Sidewalks are missing on parts of Ridge Rd and Southwestern Blvd: walk facing traffic and use a light after dark.
- Lake-effect snow can close I-90 and US-219 quickly from November to March; check road conditions before setting out.
- Most restaurants stop serving by 21:00–22:00; the Ebenezer Ale House is the late option.
- Hotel rates spike on Buffalo Bills home weekends at Orchard Park and during college move-in; book ahead.
A low-crime residential suburb; the real hazards are winter roads, unlit stretches without sidewalks and long waits for a ride after dark.
