West Kelowna sits on the west shore of Okanagan Lake, 15–20 min by car from downtown Kelowna across the floating bridge. It holds seven wineries inside its boundary, including Mission Hill and Quails' Gate, plus Gellatly Bay for swimming. It is a car-first place: buses cross the lake but run thinly, and the winery roads have no useful transit. Sleep here for cheaper rooms and quieter nights, or stay in Kelowna and drive over for a tasting afternoon.

Get around
A car is the practical answer: wineries, beaches and trailheads sit 5–15 min apart on winding roads with no sidewalks. BC Transit route 97 is a limited-stop frequent route between UBCO, downtown Kelowna and West Kelowna, and at most hours it is the only bus across Okanagan Lake; route 22 runs to Peachland and route 70 links Penticton and Kelowna on weekdays. Cash fare C$2.50 (check). Taxis and rideshare cover short hops but are thin late at night.

- Highway 97 through Westbank is a busy commercial strip with fast traffic; cross only at lights.
- Winter: Highway 97C over the mountains to Vancouver can close in snow; check DriveBC before driving.
- The nearest hospital is in Kelowna, across the bridge.
Low street crime; the real risks are driving the winding winery roads after tastings, summer heat and smoke, and winter highway closures on 97C. Lock the car at trailheads and don't leave bags visible.
