West Iceland is the region north of Reykjavík, split into four parts: the farming valleys of Dalirnir, the island-scattered bay of Breiðafjörður, the Snæfellsnes peninsula, and the Borgarfjörður farm country inland. Snæfellsnes is the reason most people come: a mountain ridge along a coast of fishing villages, with a glacier at the tip. It is a 2-night detour off the Ring Road, not a drive-through.
