Watsonville is a farm town of about 51,000 people in Santa Cruz County, sitting between the Pajaro Valley wetlands and the Monterey Bay coast. It is not a sightseeing city: the draw is the wetlands trail network, you-pick berry farms, the September county fair and two state beaches 15 minutes west. Most travellers pass through on Highway 1 between Santa Cruz and Monterey, or sleep here as a cheaper base than Santa Cruz.

Get around
A car is the practical choice: sights are spread across the valley and the coast. Downtown is walkable and there is a local circulator bus plus Santa Cruz Metro routes from the Watsonville Transit Center, but buses are slow for beach and farm trips.
