Washtenaw County is a ring of small towns around Ann Arbor, 15–30 minutes apart by car. Ann Arbor has the beds, the food and the walkable core; Ypsilanti, Chelsea, Dexter and Saline are short hops. Without a car you can still do Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti on buses, but the cider mills and back roads need wheels.
