Warsaw airport to city centre: trains, buses, taxis and costs

Warsaw sits in Benton County in central Missouri, on the Osage River arm of the Lake of the Ozarks. The town has no scheduled air service and no rail station, so every route ends in a road leg. The table below compares the realistic choices by airport, time and rough cost.

Prices are 2026 estimates for one traveller unless noted. Rental car rates follow the US range of US$45–110 a day plus insurance and fuel; shuttles and taxis are quoted per vehicle.

Kansas City International is the usual choice for Warsaw: the most flights, the most rental cars and a straight run south-east on Interstate 35 and US 50 or Route 65. St. Louis Lambert works if the fare is much cheaper, but it adds an hour each way. Columbia Regional is closest and easiest to drive out of, with a small terminal and few daily flights — check schedules before you commit.

If you are coming from outside the US, compare fares into all three. A cheaper fare into St. Louis can still win after fuel, but only if you are not paying for a one-way drop.

Amtrak's Missouri River Runner runs between St. Louis and Kansas City with stops at Jefferson City and Sedalia, both within about an hour of Warsaw by car. There is no station in Warsaw itself, and no bus connection from either stop, so this only works if you rent a car at the station or arrange a pickup.

Intercity coaches do not serve Warsaw directly. Greyhound and FlixBus routes in Missouri run between the big cities; the nearest practical drop is usually Jefferson City or Sedalia, followed by a taxi or rental car. Treat the last leg as a separate booking.

From Kansas City, take I-35 south to US 50 east, then Route 65 south into Warsaw — about 2 hours. From St. Louis, take I-70 west to US 54 south through Jefferson City and Eldon — about 3 hours. From Columbia, US 63 south to Route 5 or Route 52 west is the quickest line.

Parking in Warsaw is free and easy: motels, the marina areas and the Truman Dam visitor areas all have lots. There is no congestion charge and no permit needed. Fuel up before the last stretch; stations thin out around the lake.

The car is the main cost. A compact rental from MCI or STL runs US$45–110 a day in 2026, plus insurance if your card does not cover it, plus fuel of roughly US$15–25 for the drive to Warsaw. One-way rentals between Missouri airports can add a drop fee — check before booking.

Shuttles and taxis are per vehicle, so they only make sense for groups or if you are not driving at all. Ride-hailing from MCI to Warsaw is possible in theory but often has no drivers willing to take the run; do not rely on it.
