Warrnambool is the largest town in south-west Victoria and the practical end point of the Great Ocean Road, 260 km west of Melbourne. Two nights covers Flagstaff Hill, Lake Pertobe, Tower Hill and the whale platform; three if you add Port Fairy or the rail trail. It is a working coastal town, not a resort, and a car makes it far easier.

Get around
The centre is walkable, but the whale platform, Tower Hill and Hopkins Falls need a car or a bus plus a walk. Transit South West runs about 10 local routes, mostly hourly, from a terminus near the railway station. Metered parking in the centre is cheap and unmetered spots are easy to find.
