Wangen im Allgäu
Give Wangen one night, two at most: the walled old town is a 2-hour walk, so treat it as a stop between Lindau and Ravensburg, not a base.
Wangen im Allgäu is a small Allgäu town of about 27,000 people with a compact, well-preserved old town of gates, towers and burgher houses, first mentioned in 815. Almost everything worth seeing sits inside the ring of walls and is walkable in an afternoon. It works as an overnight stop on the A96 between Memmingen and Lindau, or as a quiet base for the western Allgäu and Lake Constance.

Get around
