Walsenburg
One night is enough: use Walsenburg as a car base for Lathrop State Park and the Spanish Peaks, or skip it and drive straight to Trinidad or Alamosa.
Walsenburg is a small crossroads town on I-25 at the junction with US-160, the road west into the San Luis Valley. It has a mining museum, a state park 4 miles west and a walkable Main Street with a brewpub and a handful of places to eat. Without a car there is little to do, and most travellers pass through.

Get around
A car is effectively required: sights sit along I-25 and US-160, and the state park is 4 miles west of town. Downtown Walsenburg itself is walkable in about 15 minutes end to end. Greyhound and Bustang stop in town, but neither reaches the park or the mountains.
