Wallaroo
Give Wallaroo one night, two at most: a heritage jetty town with a calm swimming beach, best used as a Copper Coast base with Moonta and Kadina.
Wallaroo is a small port town on the western side of Yorke Peninsula, about 1 h 45 min by road from Adelaide. It shares the Copper Coast with Kadina and Moonta, and the three are usually visited together. The town itself is a half-day: the jetty, the museum, North Beach and the marina. Add a second night if you want fishing charters, the Cornish heritage sites at Moonta, or a slow beach day.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake or 'G'day' / 'How are you going?'; first names from the start; avoid: Formal titles; long answers to 'how are you'
- Rounds: Buy your round ('shout') when drinking in a group; avoid: Leaving before your shout
- Queues: Queue patiently; sitting in the front seat of a taxi when alone is common; avoid: Pushing in — it is noticed
- Country: Listen to Welcomes and Acknowledgements; use local place names when offered; avoid: Touching artefacts or photographing ceremonies without permission
- Beach: Swim between the flags; respect lifesavers' instructions; avoid: Swimming at unpatrolled beaches alone
- Humour: Expect teasing and understatement; laugh along; avoid: Taking dry sarcasm literally or boasting
- Walking and driving: Keep left on footpaths and escalators; wave thanks to drivers who let you in; avoid: Stopping on the road to photograph kangaroos
Scams and watch-outs
- Distances between Copper Coast towns look short on the map but add up: Kadina is about 15 km, Moonta about 20 km.
- Summer heat and UV are severe; carry water and cover up between 11:00 and 16:00.
- The jetty is an active grain and fishing port: stay behind barriers when a ship is loading.
- Book accommodation early for long weekends and the Kernewek Lowender festival years.
A quiet, low-crime town; the real risks are summer heat and UV, long unlit rural roads at dusk, and swimming where there is no patrolled beach.
