Waipukurau
Skip unless you need a stop on SH2 between Wellington and Napier: one meal or a night, no more.
Waipukurau is the largest town in Central Hawke's Bay, a farming service centre on State Highway 2. It has a supermarket, a few motels and a handful of eateries, but no major sights. Most travellers use it as a lunch or fuel stop, or as a cheap bed for the night when driving between Wellington and Napier or Gisborne.
