Wageningen is a compact university town on the Nederrijn, in the province of Gelderland. It has no railway station of its own: you arrive by bus from Ede-Wageningen, 8 km away. The town is known for its life-sciences university, the 1945 German surrender at Hotel de Wereld, a working windmill and the river dyke. One day covers the centre; two days let you add the dyke, the arboretum and a Veluwe day trip.

Get around
Cycling is the best way to move around; rental shops are in the centre and main roads have separate cycle lanes with their own signals. Bus 88 loops through town but is rarely worth it for short hops. On foot the centre is small enough to cover in an afternoon.
