Vulci
Half a day: see the Etruscan museum in the castle and the Roman bridge, then move on. Not a base.
Vulci is an Etruscan archaeological site in northern Lazio, now deserted except for the ruins and the National Museum housed in La Badia Castle. The main draw is the museum (€2) and the adjacent Roman bridge, Ponte della Badia. Most visitors come as a half-day stop from Tarquinia or Viterbo.
