Vila do Conde
Give Vila do Conde one full day plus a beach afternoon: metro line B from Porto is about 40 min and €3.20, so it works as a day-trip or a 1-night stop.
Vila do Conde is a working fishing port and textile town at the mouth of the Ave, 30 km north of Porto and joined to Póvoa de Varzim along the coast. The old centre, the Santa Clara monastery and aqueduct, the lace museum and the replica nau take half a day; the beaches and the Friday market take the rest. Most travellers come on metro line B from Porto, or stop here on the Portuguese Coastal Camino.
