Victoria is Gozo's capital and its transport hub: most island roads and all main bus routes run through it, and the walled Citadella sits at the centre. Gozitans still call it Rabat, which is not the Rabat on the main island. Two nights covers the Citadella, the basilica and the lanes, with the rest of Gozo as day trips.

Get around
Walk. The Citadella is car-free and the centre is compact: bus station to Independence Square is about 5 minutes on foot. Buses fan out from Victoria to Xagħra, Għajnsielem, Xlendi and Marsalforn; Sunday services are thin, so check times the day before.

- Village buses stop in the early evening; a taxi back is the fallback.
Victoria is a small, low-crime town and safe on foot by day and evening. The real risks are summer heat on the Citadella, uneven bastion paving, and thin late-night transport back from the villages.
