Venlo
Give Venlo one night, or a half-day stop between Eindhoven and Germany: the compact centre is 2–3 hours on foot, and the border is 10 minutes away.
Venlo is a small Limburg city on the German border, about 100,000 people, and a shopping and services hub for the neighbouring German region. The historic centre was heavily damaged in World War II, so you come for a handful of monuments, two museums, a market square and easy cross-border trains — not for a canal-and-gabled postcard. Most travellers see it in an afternoon or use it as a rail stop toward Düsseldorf.

Get around
The centre is small enough to walk end to end in about 20 minutes. Rent a bike at Fietspoint on Stationsplein if you want to reach the river or the green areas; reserve ahead.
