Valtesiniko
Skip unless you have a car and want a quiet mountain base for hiking and cave monasteries: half a day from Tripoli or a stop en route to Vytina.
Valtesiniko is a stone-built village at over 1,000 m on Mount Mainalo, surrounded by fir forest. Its main draws are the Kapsalis Gorge and the cave monastery of Agios Nikolaos. The village itself has limited services and no public transport: you need a car. Most travellers use it as a short stop between Tripoli and Vytina or Ano Doliana.

Scams and watch-outs
- No petrol station in the village; fill up in Tripoli or Vytina.
- Trails in Kapsalis Gorge are rough and not always marked: wear sturdy shoes.
- The cave monastery is abandoned and partly unstable: do not enter unsafe sections.
- Snowfall can close the mountain roads in winter; check conditions before driving.
A quiet mountain village with low crime. The main risks are unmarked hiking trails, unstable ruins at the cave monastery, and winter road conditions.
