Valencia
One day for Six Flags Magic Mountain, two if you add Hurricane Harbor. Skip Valencia as a sightseeing base — it is a theme-park stop inside Santa Clarita.
Valencia is a planned district of Santa Clarita, about 35 miles north of downtown Los Angeles on Interstate 5. Its reason to exist for travellers is Six Flags Magic Mountain, one of the largest roller-coaster parks in the world, plus the Hurricane Harbor water park next door. Everything else — the paseos, the orange groves, the shopping — is local life, not a destination. Come for the coasters, sleep one or two nights, then move on.

Get around
Valencia is car country. The Santa Clarita city bus network (Santa Clarita Transit) links the Metrolink station, Valencia Town Center and Magic Mountain on weekdays, but service to the park is thin and slow. Metrolink's Antelope Valley Line runs from LA Union Station to Santa Clarita station in about 1 h 10 min on weekdays, then you still need a taxi or bus for the last 4–5 miles. Rideshare works but surge pricing after park closing is real.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Parking at Magic Mountain costs extra and the lot is huge; note your row number.
- Summer afternoons regularly pass 35 °C: water, shade and sunscreen, or you will lose the day.
- Rides close for wind and maintenance without notice; check the park app on the day.
- I-5 through the Santa Clarita Valley backs up badly on weekday mornings and Sunday evenings.
- Nothing in Valencia is walkable from the hotels to the park gates except a few motels on The Old Road.
Valencia is a low-crime suburban area and safe for tourists by day and night. The real risks are heatstroke in summer, I-5 traffic, and leaving valuables visible in a parked car at the theme-park lot.
