Valencia airport to city centre: trains, buses, taxis and costs

Valencia, Bukidnon is a landlocked town in the province of Bukidnon, Mindanao, and it has no commercial airport. The practical gateway is Laguindingan Airport (CGY), which serves Cagayan de Oro, roughly 120 km north-west of Valencia. From the airport you first reach Cagayan de Oro city, then continue south-west to Valencia by bus or van.

If you are landing before mid-afternoon and travelling light, the bus or van combination is the cheapest and most predictable option. If you land in the evening, or you are a group with luggage, a pre-booked private transfer or a Grab from Cagayan de Oro is worth the extra cost. There is no train on this route.

Laguindingan Airport sits on the coast between Cagayan de Oro and Iligan. On landing, the usual first step is the airport shuttle or a metered taxi into Cagayan de Oro city, where the bus terminals for Bukidnon departures are located. Some shuttle services run directly toward the city centre; confirm the drop-off point before boarding, because the terminals are not all in the same place.

From Cagayan de Oro, buses and UV Express vans run to Valencia and other Bukidnon towns through the mountains. The road climbs into cool highland country, which is why the trip takes longer than the distance suggests. Vans are faster but more cramped; buses are slower but easier with luggage.

A private transfer can be arranged through your hotel or a local operator and removes the terminal changes entirely. Grab works well inside Cagayan de Oro city, but a Grab all the way to Valencia depends on driver willingness and is not guaranteed; treat the fare as a check item.

There is no rail service to Valencia or anywhere on Mindanao, so ignore any search result that mentions a train.

Budget travellers can do the whole run for a few hundred pesos: the airport shuttle into Cagayan de Oro, then a bus or van ticket to Valencia. Add a tricycle or motorela at the Valencia end, which is cheap and usually agreed before you get in.

Private transfers cost many times more but are per vehicle, so they make sense for three or four people sharing. Fares quoted by drivers at the airport are often higher than pre-booked rates; agree the price before you load bags.

Land early in the day. The mountain road to Bukidnon is slower in rain and after dark, and the last scheduled buses and vans from Cagayan de Oro leave in the early evening. A late landing can strand you in the city for the night, which is not a disaster but changes your plan.

Carry cash. Terminals, buses, vans and tricycles are overwhelmingly cash-only, and ATMs in smaller Bukidnon towns can be empty or offline. Change money or withdraw in Cagayan de Oro before heading up.

Dress for the altitude. Valencia sits on a high plateau and nights are noticeably cooler than the coast, so keep a light jacket within reach rather than in the bottom of your bag.
