Uzgen is a 2,000-year-old Silk Road town at the eastern edge of the Ferghana Valley, 50 km northeast of Osh. Its main draw is the Karakhanid-era minaret and three mausoleums from the 11th–12th centuries. The rest of the town is a quiet provincial centre with a fortress ruin and 19th-century mosques. Most travellers see the complex in an hour, then continue.
