Uxbridge is a small township town in northern Durham Region, about 90 minutes from Toronto by GO bus. It has no hotel cluster and no rail link of its own, so most visitors come for a half day: the Leaskdale home of Lucy Maud Montgomery, the 220 km trail network and a compact downtown of independent shops. Two nights only makes sense if you are walking or cycling the trails.

Get around
Downtown is walkable, but the town sprawls: the big-box strip on Toronto Street South and the trailheads need a car or a bus. Durham Region Transit route 905C runs from Whitby GO Station to Railway and Albert Streets in about 90 minutes; route 605 serves the Toronto Street South stores. GO bus routes 70 and 71 also end at Railway and Albert Streets. Taxi service is limited — check locally before relying on it.
