Uttarpara
উত্তরপাড়া
Skip Uttarpara unless you are a railway or automobile history enthusiast: half a day is enough to see the Hind Motor factory gate and the riverbank, then move on to Chandannagar or Serampore.
Uttarpara is a small industrial town on the Hooghly River, 20 km north of Kolkata. It was home to India's first car factory (Hind Motor) and now manufactures metro coaches. The town has no major tourist sights beyond the factory compound and a quiet riverfront. Most travellers use it as a stop on the way to Chandannagar or Serampore.
