Uselu
Skip Uselu for a short visit; safety concerns and limited attractions make it better as a quick pass‑through if you already are in Benin City.
Uselu is a densely populated district of Benin City, home to the Egor local government and traditional palaces. It offers several markets and eateries, but high crime reports and limited tourist infrastructure mean it is best visited only as part of a longer Benin City stay.

Language
English runs government, business and the media, so you can organise everything in it. On the street people switch to Pidgin, Yoruba in Lagos and the south-west, Igbo in the south-east and Hausa in the north. Humour, titles and greetings carry a lot of weight.
- Pidgin: 'How far?' (how are you?), 'Wetin dey happen?' (what's up?), 'Abeg' (please).
- Use 'Sir' and 'Ma' with anyone older or in authority.

Scams and watch-outs
- High gangster activity and armed robbery reports; police response often slow.
