Ulladulla
Give Ulladulla two nights as a Shoalhaven beach base: surf at Mollymook, seafood at the harbour, and a car for the rest.
Ulladulla is a working fishing harbour on the NSW south coast, about three hours' drive south of Sydney on the Princes Highway. With Mollymook just north it is a summer and long-weekend beach town rather than a sightseeing stop: the draw is the water, the seafood and the quiet, plus easy runs to Jervis Bay and Batemans Bay. Two nights covers it; a car makes it far better.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake or 'G'day' / 'How are you going?'; first names from the start; avoid: Formal titles; long answers to 'how are you'
- Rounds: Buy your round ('shout') when drinking in a group; avoid: Leaving before your shout
- Queues: Queue patiently; sitting in the front seat of a taxi when alone is common; avoid: Pushing in — it is noticed
- Country: Listen to Welcomes and Acknowledgements; use local place names when offered; avoid: Touching artefacts or photographing ceremonies without permission
- Beach: Swim between the flags; respect lifesavers' instructions; avoid: Swimming at unpatrolled beaches alone
- Humour: Expect teasing and understatement; laugh along; avoid: Taking dry sarcasm literally or boasting
- Walking and driving: Keep left on footpaths and escalators; wave thanks to drivers who let you in; avoid: Stopping on the road to photograph kangaroos
Scams and watch-outs
- Summer school holidays and Easter fill cabins and holiday houses: book well ahead.
- Swim between the flags at patrolled beaches; rips on this coast are real.
- Check bushfire danger ratings and total fire bans in summer before any drive inland.
- Local buses are infrequent, so do not rely on them for a tight itinerary.
A relaxed coastal town and generally safe. The real risks are surf rips, summer bushfire danger and holiday crowds: swim between the flags, check fire ratings, and book summer beds early.
