Before you fly, install and set up: a taxi app, a maps app with offline packs for the regions you will visit, a translation app with Ukrainian downloaded, and your bank's app so you can freeze or unfreeze cards. Add the national rail app if you plan intercity trains.
On arrival, buy a local SIM or activate your eSIM. Local data is cheap and makes everything else work. Taxi apps need a working phone number for the driver to call you; a local number avoids roaming charges and missed calls.
