Ufa is the capital of Bashkortostan, a city of 1.1 million on the Belaya River where the Urals meet the steppe. It is long and thin — over 50 km north to south, under 5 km wide — so the historic centre, the newer Prospekt Oktyabrya axis and the Chernikovka district sit far apart. There is no single headline sight; the city rewards walking, wooden houses and Bashkir food. Two nights covers it.

Routes are hard to read without Russian — check Yandex before you leave. Taxis are app-dispatched (Yandex, Maxim and others) and usually arrive in minutes; hailing on the street is unreliable and often dearer. - Transit stops around 22:00 — plan the last bus or budget for a taxi.
- The train station sits below the hill; you climb stairs to reach the bus stop.
- The North Bus Station has been closed for years; buses leave from the South Bus Station in the centre.
