Tuxpan is a working river port of about 90,000 people on the Veracruz Gulf coast, 11 km upriver from the sea, with a naval base and a PEMEX terminal. The beach is on a barrier island east of town, so you sleep in the centre or along the river and take a taxi or car to the sand. It works as a low-cost 2-night stop between Tampico and Poza Rica, or a break on the drive from Mexico City. The water is Gulf-green, not Caribbean-clear, and tankers sit offshore.

- Bus stations are split by company and spread out: confirm the terminal on your ticket before you leave.
- Sargassum and summer storms can close beach days in the wet season; check locally.
- Swim with care where there is no lifeguard; currents on the Gulf side can be strong.
Tuxpan is a normal working Mexican port town: use taxis at night, keep to lit central streets, and treat the beach as unsupervised. The bigger risks are road travel after dark and strong Gulf currents.
