Tuttlingen
Half a day is enough: walk the Danube riverbank, see Honberg castle ruins and have lunch. Use it as a stop between Stuttgart and Lake Constance, not a base.
Tuttlingen is a small industrial town on the young Danube, best known for its medieval castle ruins and as a gateway to the Swabian Mountains. Most visitors pass through on the Stuttgart–Zürich Intercity line. The town centre is walkable, the river is pleasant, and the Honberg Sommer music festival in July draws crowds. For most travellers, a half-day stop or one night is enough.
