Tulancingo de Bravo
Give Tulancingo one night as a stop between Mexico City and the Huasca/Real del Monte mining towns, or skip it if you only have a week.
Tulancingo is Hidalgo's second city, 93 km northeast of Mexico City, and the gateway to the Sierra de Pachuca mining villages. Its own sights — a 16th-century Franciscan cathedral, a railroad museum, the Huapalcalco pyramid — fill a half day. Most travellers use it as a bed and a bus change, not a destination.
