Tukuyu
Stop for one night on the road between Mbeya and Malawi: hike to a crater lake and a lava bridge, then move on.
Tukuyu is a small town in the Southern Highlands, surrounded by tea plantations, crater lakes and waterfalls. It works best as a one-night stop between Mbeya and Malawi, with time for a half-day hike to Ngozi Crater Lake or God's Bridge. The town itself has no major sights; the appeal is the green highland scenery and quiet village homestays.

- Homestays and campsites are basic: bring a sleeping bag and mosquito net.
- Last buses to Mbeya leave by late afternoon; confirm the schedule at the station.
Tukuyu is safe during the day; petty theft is rare. The main risks are muddy roads and steep trails after rain. Carry a torch for evening walks.
