Tuktoyaktuk (Tuk) is an Inuvialuit hamlet of about 900 people on the Arctic Ocean, and the only community in Canada on that coast reachable by road. The 138 km gravel Highway 10 from Inuvik takes about 3 hours. There is no hotel and no scheduled air service, so you come by car or not at all. One night covers the pingos, The Point and the shore.

- There is no hotel: book a B&B or the Saliqmiut well ahead, and confirm before you drive.
- Alcohol is restricted within 25 km of the hamlet, with limits on what you can carry or keep.
- The Ice House is closed to non-residents: a 30-foot ladder down into permafrost, too risky to open.
- Permafrost is thawing and the shoreline is eroding: keep back from the edge, especially near the cemetery.
- Fuel, food and phone coverage are thin; fill up in Inuvik and carry cash.
