Tsethang
泽当
Half a day to see Tradruk Temple and the Monkey Cave, then overnight or continue to Samye. Not a base for longer stays.
Tsethang (Zedang) is the capital of Shannan Prefecture and a gateway to Tibet's oldest temple, Tradruk, and the legendary birthplace of the Tibetan people at Mt Gongpori. Most sights take a few hours; the town itself has limited accommodation and no ATMs for foreign cards. Plan a half-day stop en route to Samye or Chongye.
