Trefriw
Use Trefriw as a half-day stop from Llanrwst or Betws-y-Coed: woollen mill, riverside walk, Fairy Falls. Not a base unless you have a car.
Trefriw is a small village in the Conwy Valley, mostly inside the Snowdonia National Park boundary that runs down the main street. It has a working woollen mill, a riverside walk and a short waterfall path. Most travellers see it in two to three hours from Llanrwst, 3 km away, or as a quiet overnight with a car.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake at first meeting; 'hi' and first names quickly; avoid: Cheek kisses with strangers
- Conversation: Weather is a safe opener; understatement and self-deprecating humour; avoid: Asking about salary or class
- Queues: Join at the back; avoid: Pushing onto buses or trains before others get off
- Apologies: 'Sorry' is said constantly, even when not at fault; avoid: Taking it as an admission of blame
- Pubs: Buy rounds in a group; wait at the bar without waving money; avoid: Clicking fingers at staff
- Nations: Call Scots Scottish and Welsh Welsh; avoid: Calling the whole UK 'England'
Scams and watch-outs
- The old chalybeate spa is no longer open to the public: do not plan a visit around it.
- Fairy Falls path can be muddy and slippery after rain; wear shoes with grip.
- Village bus services are sparse, especially on Sundays: check the last return before you set out.
- Phone signal is patchy in parts of the valley.
Very low crime; the real risks are weather, wet paths and getting stranded by a missed last bus. Tell someone your walking route and carry a rain layer.
