Trecastle
Trecastell
Skip as a base: a 20-minute A40 stop for the motte and a walk, or sleep one night if you are walking the Beacons.
Trecastle is a small village on the A40 between Brecon and Llandovery, inside the Brecon Beacons. There is a castle motte, a Roman marching-camp site and walking country in every direction, but almost no village centre to spend a day in. Treat it as a stop or a single walking night, not a base.
